Richland County Soldiers' Monument

1881 / J. W. Fiske / Mansfield

Mansfield_RichlandCountySoldiers_StreetView.png

A monument featuring a statue of a soldier, dedicated to the soldiers of the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War, and the Civil War.

According to the Shelby County Historical Society, the statue is from the same J. W. Fiske mold as the Sgt. Baker statue on the Monumental Building in Sidney, Ohio. The original Richland statue, dedicated in 1881, was broken during a move in 1976. The pieces were welded back together by Paul Blanton in the 90s. Using the rewelded version original statue and the Sidney statue as reference, Michael G. Kraus made a new mold and bronze cast for a new Richland Monument. The new statue was dedicated in 1998.
