The School of Fish
2018 / David Griesmyer / McConnelsville
The first installation added to the Ohio Art Corridor, a non-profit organization founded to promote and provide public art and tourism throughout the Appalachia region of southeastern Ohio, The School of Fish consists of three steel fish, rising 15-20 feet in the air, spanning a total length of 90 feet, and stabilized in the ground with several tons of concrete. The largest fish weighs over 2,400 pounds and is 24 feet long. The co-founder of the organization, David Griesmyer, is also the artist and sculptor of this piece. Crafted in his Malta-based workshop in 2018, each fish is unique in design, united through a red, orange, and yellow color scheme. Combined, they seem to be swimming along the Muskingum River.
This piece is located along Ohio Route 376 by the Muskingum River. It is across from the Morgan County Fairgrounds, near the boat launch.
