Dr. Benjamin S. Brown
1883 / A. Caripairoli, J.M. Beerbower, et al. / Bellefontaine
A life-size (six foot, two inch) marble sculpture of Dr. Benjamin S. Brown, one of the early citizens of Bellefontaine, Ohio, on top of a 9 foot granite base. Both the sculpture and the park in which it sits (Brown Park) were donated to the city in 1883 by Dr. Brown's widow, Rebecca Brown (nee Shaw).
Rebecca's will also stipulated that a natural history museum was to be erected at the parks location to house Dr. Browns extensive collection of shells, but that somehow never came to fruition, and what happened to the collection of shells has been lost to history.
