Family
2008 / David L. Deming / Athens
This stainless-steel sculpture is comprised of three abstract pillars whose curves and lines resemble approximately life-sized human figures. Two of the pillars have smaller, flatter steel pieces attached to the top of them. Its steel and concrete base is surrounded by brick walls. The plaque attached to this brick enclosure displays the name of the work, the artist, creation date, and those who donated it to the Kennedy Museum of Art.
Family stands outside of what was once the main building of the Athens Mental Health Center, now called Lin Hall. The area has been renamed The Ridges, and most of the remaining buildings are owned and have been renovated by Ohio University. While the work is owned by OU's Kennedy Museum of Art, admission to the museum is not needed to see the easily-visible sculpture.
