It depicts Abigail teaching her husband how to read and write. Morgan holds a rifle in his hand while Abigail holds a book, and there is a quill and parchment placed on a platform next to them.
The piece was a gift from Doctor Robert Richmond and his family to the county, and it sits outside of the Kate Love Simpson Library, facing the street.
