Weeping Angel of West State Street Cemetery

This statue depicts an angel writing in a book resting on her bent knee. Created by local monument makers, the Cross Brothers, the memorial was dedicated by the Athens High School class of 1924. It's intended to honor all of the unknown dead laid to rest in the cemetery during the previous century.

Known as the "Weeping Angel," the statue is a popular source of ghost and paranormal stories. There have been claims that the angel cries tears, whispers to visitors, and moves their wings.
