Skywoman
2006 / Lee Csrui / Westerville
A nine-foot painted wooden sculpture a woman with feathers in her hair, wearing a long blue dress decorated with animals and plants, who is standing on a large turtle.
The sculpture is part of the Story Maze at Inniswood Metro Gardens which lays out the Native American creation story "Earth on Turtle's Back" on carved paver tiles that wrap around in a maze pattern. The character of Skywoman is the central figure in the story.
The sculpture is a replica of the original, which was stolen in June of 2006. The sculpture, worth an estimated $25,000, was recovered in July of that year when a concerned citizen reported seeing it in a house near The Ohio State University campus, but it is now housed in the office building at Inniswood Metro Gardens.
