Lentil and his dog Harmony

2001 / Nancy Schon / Hamilton

Lentil photo1.jpeg

This sculpture (and the park it resides in) was created to honor children's author and illustrator Robert McCloskey, a native of Hamilton, OH. The bronze sculpture draws on an illustration from the book and depicts the character Lentil (from the author's first book) strolling while playing the harmonica, with his dog following behind. While the dog is unnamed in the book, the city of Hamilton held a naming contest and chose the name "Harmony" for the dog depicted in the sculpture. The work was dedicated on September 21, 2001.
