Chief Candice M. Cook Firefighters Memorial
1997 / David Camele / Loveland
The Loveland-Symmes Firefighters' Memorial, originally erected in 1997, was designed by local Loveland artist David Camele. The memorial incorporates a number of commemorative elements, including a bronze sculpture of a female firefighter carrying a small child and several memorial benches in honor of specific men and women. At the center of the memorial is a concrete vault containing a time capsule. On top of the vault is a bell that was once on the riverboat Reuben Springer; this bell served as the Loveland firefighters' alarm bell until 1934. There are four pillars with additional memorial plaques honoring fallen responders, including those who lost their lives in a 2007 fire in Charleston, SC. Behind the central vault is a 9/11 memorial, featuring a section of an I-beam from the North Tower of the World Trade Center. The memorial was rededicated and renamed for local fire chief Candice M. Cook after her passing in 2018.
